City of Nacogdoches Emergency Management Outdoor Warning Sirens

The City of Nacogdoches has ten outdoor warning sirens for use during emergency situations. The sirens are strategically placed around the community in an effort to cover as much area as possible. The outdoor warning sirens are specifically intended to warn those person who are outside that an emergency event is imminent or has occurred. The warning siren is an attempt to get those persons inside so they can tune to a radio or television station or even listen to a weather radio for updates to what is occurring. The Outdoor Warning System is in place to warn residents and visitors in the event of:

  • A tornado warning
  • A flood warning situation
  • Or a hazardous materials release which may endanger local residents.

The warning system consists of the Outdoor Warning Sirens plus an Emergency Alert System on Cox Cable television plus announcements by local radio and television media. The City of Nacogdoches performs audible tests on the first Wednesday of each month at 12 noon unless threatening weather is present. At various times, the City conducts silent tests of the system to verify the workability of various electronic components.

When someone hears the warning siren, they should turn on either their television or radio and listen for information relating to the event. Please DO NOT call 9-1-1.
