NOTICE: Rabid Skunk found
Around 2:00 pm on March 11th, an animal control officer at the Nacogdoches Animal Shelter received a call from the manager at Walgreens, located in the North part of town. Several customers had come into the store claiming there was a skunk in the drive through lane acting strangely. The store manager called the Animal Shelter, and then took actions to keep the public away from the skunk. By the time the ACO arrived, the skunk had wandered off behind the store. When it was found, it had its head in a hole, preventing the ACO from using a catch pole to detain it. After many unsuccessful attempts to provoke the skunk to remove its head from the hole, the ACO shot and killed the skunk and submitted it for testing. The skunk was rabid.
