
Brief History of the Nacogdoches Fire Department
The first volunteer fire department was organized by the citizens of Nacogdoches in 1907, but was disbanded. The Nacogdoches Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 was organized in 1908 with Ira Sturdevant as the Fire Chief. This department did not stay together and in 1910, the department was re-organized and established a permanent home.
Fire chiefs over the years have been Chief Sturdevant, Chief L.I. Muller, Chief J.R. Horn, Chief Harwell Davis, Chief E.C. Feazell, Chief Delbert Teutsch, Chief Charles Duffin, Chief Fred Green, Chief Rusty Sanders, Chief Stanley Whitaker, Chief David Fieroand current Chief Keith Kiplinger
