Downtown Night
We envision Historic Downtown Nacogdoches as a year round destination where visitors and locals experience the heart of our community rich with history, commerce, entertainment, cultural, and educational opportunities.

The Nacogdoches Main Street Program will preserve and promote historic downtown Nacogdoches through public and private partnerships and the Four Points of Main Street: organization, design, economic restructuring and promotions.

Mainstreet Manager
Often property owners, merchants, and sponsors anticipate Main Street staff devoting the majority of its time and resources to event planning. In the Main Street approach, events and festivals are only a limited way to influence economic development. Because of this the staff’s charge is actually much broader and includes advancing efforts that effect:
  • Design - the physical infrastructure of downtown
  • Organization - fundraising and public awareness
  • Marketing/Promotion - downtown image development
  • Economic redevelopment - business recruitment and retention

The Main Street staff answers to many supervisors and constituency groups. Primarily, the City of Nacogdoches, the Main Street Advisory Board, and the Texas Historical Commission oversee the development of Main Street’s annual work plan and review the level of success in achieving priority objectives. Additionally, the Main Street board and staff work among several other constituency groups that have similar goals in common. Those include
  • Stephen F. Austin State University
  • Nacogdoches Independent School District
  • Nacogdoches Convention & Visitors Bureau
  • Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce
  • Nacogdoches Economic Development Corporation

Mainstreet By The Numbers
  • 11,000 volunteer hours logged
  • $9 million in private and public reinvestment in the downtown district
  • 10,000 patrons to the downtown Visitor’s Center annually (1,274 in 1998)
