Essential Oils Basic Class

Essential oils naturally occur in plants, each with its own unique scent and therapeutic benefit.  Many, like peppermint, citrus oils, and tea tree, are commonly used in many commercial products.  They can be used for cleaning, to deodorize a room, to lift your mood, for health and healing, and in cooking.  We will talk about the most commonly used oils and their health benefits.

Wild Plant Foraging

Spring is here and you don't have to just eat what you've put in the ground. East Texas is loaded with an abundance of edibles throughout our forests. Come find out what plants you can eat, and you may discover that a "nuisance" can be a part of your sustenance!


Altered Books Workshop

Express your creative side and breathe fresh life into old books.  You’ll have access to the library’s repository of awesome art supplies and we’ll show you how to repurpose a damaged book into your very own work of art.

Essential oils occur naturally in plants, many of which can be used for healing and maintaining good health.  Which oils can you use to soothe burns?  How can you treat lice naturally with essential oils?  Come and discover the answer to these questions and much more!


In the Garden: Transplanting

Transplanting seedlings is a big task, but with the right knowledge one can ensure a healthy life for a plant. Come learn about different ways to set out your spring seedlings and the science behind optimal plant growth after transplanting, from soil structure to root structure.

Color Me Calm: Adult Coloring

Lunch Hour Book Club

Spanish/English Conversation Group (Grupo de Conversacion en Íngles y Español)

Do you know a little Spanish but never have an opportunity to practice? Would you like to meet people and help others? This group joins English-speakers who want to learn Spanish with Spanish-speakers who want to learn English. For one hour we take turns speaking in English and Spanish. This is a great way to practice your comprehension and speaking skills. All levels welcome! Si usted desea practicar su íngles, nosotros tendremos un programa para usted. Aquí practicamos como hablar íngles con personas que quieren aprender español. Ambos grupos gozan la oportunidad de aprender más. Todos niveles de íngles son bienvenidos.

The library is pleased to present the Fourth Annual How-To Festival where local experts teach you “how-to” do all sorts of things in mini-sessions throughout the day.  Participate in community-centered interactive education, either as a presenter or learner.

Tech Triage

We’ll be in the lobby every Tuesday afternoon to help you learn how to use your devices, from mobile phones to smartphones to tablets, laptops or digital cameras.  This is a walk-in workshop for those who have questions about their devices.  Feel free to bring the trouble-making equipment with you!

Learn how to create and use spreadsheets.  Students must be experienced in word processing.


Microsoft PowerPoint

Dates: February 7 and March 8

Time: 5:30pm

Ages: 18 years & up

Registration: Free. Please register by the day before the class.

Students will learn the basics of creating an appealing slideshow presentation for school, work or other uses. Students will also get a basic introduction to alternatives to PowerPoint. Must be an experienced computer user.


Microsoft Publisher & Canva

Dates: February 22 and April 26

Time: 5:30pm

Ages: 18 years & up

Registration: Free. Please register by the day before the class.

Students will learn to create flyers and business cards using Publisher and the free web-based program called Canva. Must be an experienced computer user.


Book-a-Librarian
