Judy B. McDonald Public Library is a department of city of Nacogdoches. The library has received many grants including: Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Lifelong Learning & Literacy Grant, DVD Grant, Texas Book Festival Award, AmeriCorp MentorCorp, and Texas Responds Grant and Loan Star, both from Texas State Library & Archives Commission. The Judy B. McDonald Public Library has been serving the Nacogdoches area since 1972.

Adult Fiction and Non-Fiction, Large Print, Children's and Young Adult books, Audio-books on cassette and CD, Videos, DVDs, Magazines & Newspapers, Business, Reference, Local History, Local Authors, and a Spanish-language collection for children and adults.

How To Get A Library Card
Fill out an application form and present proof of residence. Proof of residence can be an ID that shows your current address or any other item that has been mailed to you. Children under 17 years of age must have a parent's signature. First card is free; replacement card fee $1.00. 

Circulation Policy
Books from the "new book section" - 2 weeks. All other books - 4 weeks. Audio Books on CD or cassette - 4 weeks. Entertainment videos/DVDs - 7 days. Non-Fiction videos - 2 weeks LIMITS : 3 non-fiction books per call number; 8 cassettes, 5 CDs; 4 videos or DVDs per family. No limit on fiction books. FINES : 10 cents a day on books and cassettes, $1.00 a day on videos and DVDs. RENEWALS : Can be done in person or telephone (559-2970). Limit one renewal. An item cannot be renewed if another customer is waiting for that item.

Join us for one of our biggest events of the year!  Visit demonstrations, presentations and hands-on workshops for all kinds of topics.  Presenters will be on hand from all over the community to show you how to do their favorite things.  Check the schedule below to see what's going on!

April is National Poetry Month Poetry Contest

The Judy B. McDonald Public Library is celebrating National Poetry Month with the 3nd Annual Poetry Contest.  Entries are being accepted now until April 17th, 2015 in 3 categories:  Junior High, High School, and Adult.   The contest is open to anyone residing in Nacogdoches County.  Each individual may submit one (1) poem.   Entries may be on any subject matter, but must be suitable for a general audience, original, and not previously published.  First, second, and third places will be awarded in each category.  Copies of the poetry booklet with entries will be presented to each entrant.  The library reserves the right to print, in whole or in part, any entry in the contest.  ENTRIES WILL NOT BE RETURNED, so please copy your work before submitting it to the library!

Poems should be:

  • On any topic
  • Any style of writing
  • Typed, double-spaced on 8.5 x 11 (letter-size) paper
  • Submitted with entry form as hard copy via U.S. Mail or in person at the library.

**Name should appear on the entry form only.  Do not write name on the poem.

Winners will be notified by phone or email and all poets are welcome to read their work at our Poetry Month Contest Recital on Thursday, April 30th at 6:00 p.m. in the library.  For more information, contact library staff at 936-559-2970.
